Thanks for a great time, James! We’ll never forget it! My boyfriend wanted me to add: Even though there was a very annoying, interruptive teenager that kept talking over James, he still handled it like a pro.6816840122437 Short-Sleeve Kona Camp Shirt - Faherty Tour Print 158.00 ///cdn/shop/files/SU23-faherty-mens-MWU2321-FTP-ss-kona-camp-shirt-faherty-tour-print_Lead.jpg?v=1683918837 ///cdn/shop/files/SU23-faherty-mens-MWU2321-FTP-ss-kona-camp-shirt-faherty-tour-print_Lead_large.jpg?v=1683918837 USD InStock Men's Button Ups All Men's Tops All products All Products (exclude GC and 3rd Party) BEACH DAYS BFCM Men's Francesco's Edit Gifts Under $200 Gifts Under $500 Live Products - BFCM Men's Men's Blue Color Story Men's Influencer Favorites Men's New Arrivals Men's Print Shop Men's Shirt Guide Men's Shirts Men's Short-Sleeve Button Ups Men's Summer Essentials Men's Summer Shop Men's Summer Short-Sleeve Shirts Men's Warm Weather Favorites Mike's Father's Day Picks New Arrivals Santiago's Edit The 10th Anniversary Collection The Summer Shop He provides parkas, but you should still dress warm and bring layers. Keep in mind that it was very cold! We were there in April and it was 45 degrees on top of the mountain. You’ll be able to hang out longer after the tour to continue gazing. So if you have you own, definitely bring it with you. We saw others bring their own telescopes. There are not large telescopes, but James has his own equipment: telephone/camera which makes it easier to view the stars and galaxies. James takes you to the best secluded spot where you can see more stars than you’ve seen in your life without being swarmed by tons of people as you would at the observatory. It is a more intimate tour, which I prefer. Just a heads up, this is not a tour at the observatory. This is one of the best experiences of my life! James was very informative and took wonderful pictures. Lastly, we booked directly through his website epicbigisland dot com. We highly recommend an evening with James, it was one of the top highlights of our time on the Big Island. We also purchased the upgraded photo package for a hires poster size print we made for my son’s wall to remind us of our adventures. James is an astrophotography pro – he has the experience and equipment to get the shots we had envisioned. He then took individual pics with everyone in our small group of about 12, spending time with each of us to get the best poses with the Milky Way behind us. After getting us set with warm parkas and reclining beach chairs to really lean back and enjoy the night sky he gave a great presentation of what we were looking at (the parkas were fine for us, but dress warmly and even bring an extra blanket if you’re prone to being cold, it was in the 30’s). Check, check and check! James brought us to a perfect location away from anyone or anything else where we had the perfect view of the Milky Way rising and billions of stars. We like small groups, personalized experiences in locations not frequented by the large tour companies. We came to the Big Island from New York specifically to experience the best dark sky stargazing and Astrophotography on Mauna Kea. Thank you James for a spectacular evening and beautiful photos of us.
